Yesterday felt like a perfect weekday. I don't even remember when I felt that way the last time, it certainly been ages i guess. Left early for office. Well, another thing I would go on writing about is how wonderful it is to live close to office, it can change your life so much!!!On any given day I'd argue/negotiate/fight at least 5-6 auto drivers before I board one n start my day with a grumpy mood. Travelling in auto here will definitely be one of the things to ruin your mood everyday n yes a key factor affecting your life everyday..but today the first auto guy I found agreed to go at normal fare, I was soooo prepared to fight him even before I spoke to him, hahah.
In office, I only came across people who were smiling, helping, very enthusiastic and lively. Way different from my earlier work environment. Thank god for this change!!! It all went so smoothly and work for the day got accomplished. Again while heading back home, for the first time the auto guy readily agreed to charge the fare as per the meter. Both my colleague n me were surprised to see this first time in one year of our travelling experience on our route...anybody who lives in Bangalore would know what I mean here :).
After reaching home, went for swimming for an hour n half. The best way to wash away all your stress and feel totally relaxed. For all those people living a stressful life each day..just jump into the pool if you have one available. You'll definitely feel refreshed n lighter! And I had no reason or work to go on the net, I just went to quickly check mails and to my delight I met my long lost dear sister - cum - friend, who's far far away now. But thanks to the technology advancement that makes the world a smaller place. Finally, getting a web cam has helped indeed, it was nice to see each other and talk like we were in the same room. It's been ages since we met in person and yes emails keep doing rounds but nothing like seeing the person live n talking. Well..I guess we have more to catch up on each other's lives..but it was great! There's nothing better than meeting someone close to heart after a looong period of time and starting from where we left. I didn't realize how time passed and it was late night..but that didn't matter . At the end of the day I was happy!! I know this may not match the standards of "a perfect weekday" for most people, but I experienced this after soooooo long..and yes to me it was a perfect weekday with a balance of professional and personal life in a day!!! I'd hope n look forward to many such days to come :)

until then...
In feb, I went to kathmandu to meet my folks and then ofcourse to the mountains :). I was away from this busy n complicatedly advanced city life. Being in the green world of nature, mountain, fresh air, pure water and beautiful people who live simple life ..their smiling faces, warm n hospitable culture and a happy attitude. Sometimes I feel lil sad coz I just can't go up there whenever i feel like. It's always a long wait. Whenever i get there i ask myself "when possibly will i get to live this kind of simple, content, peaceful life in the arms of the mountains and close to the beauty of nature?"..and the answers obviously is .."Not before I retire". Well.. we land up where we find our means of making a living and that shapes up this whole thing called our life.
About three months back mermaid, me and my family had gone to my bro's Monastery. It's a pretty lovely place. My bro took me and mermy to his place and we went up on the terrace. It was a lovely evening, we could see the sun setting slowly, it was breezy, we got a 360 degree view of the place with small hills around and corn farms spread across surrounding the monastery. Mermy said ' I wish we could live in such a place', and I said the same. And then finally both of sort of said together...we can do that probably only after we retire, so lets work hard now to get to retirement. This place is just 4-5 hrs away from our city and yet we felt that it's beyond our reach to think of living in such a place for now , it might take another 15-20 yrs or so...
So yes..I'm waiting for my retirement [from the corporate job ]. Well, the moment people hear this, many might just label me as being lazy or unambitious to think like that right now when i'm still at the initial phase of my career. And our elders would react saying ' You are still young and have a long way to go , this is the time for you to work hard.. during our times we did this & that ..the typical way of elders reacting & advising :)... but it's not so pessimistic to think like that, because the harder I work now and save the sooner i can retire from job. So it also means that I'd like to work hard & save enough. And the fact that i'm saying I'm waiting for my retirement & look forward to it also means that i'd like to work for it. We can't retire if we don't work at all.
My sis in law's parents were here and her dad got sweets - he retired from his work and got his first pension. He's on the other side of it .I thought it's a long way for me to reach that phase - to retire and start getting pension:). Until then keep working...

Yes, retirement is something we need to work really hard for. That's become our ambition in life now - to retire peacefully in a peaceful and quiet and beautiful place. I too come across a number of people who think that not wanting to achieve "success", not wanting to get on the top most rung of the corporate ladder - is being lazy, unambitious, uncompetitive.. but the truth is it is up to us how we'd like to define being "ambitious"...
I'd like to retire in a green beautiful place, have access to the beach, have a li'l house with red-oxide flooring (yes, that's a must)... have lovely green trees in the backyard.. have li'l grand kids come n visit me and me cooking for them (yes, that's unbelievable, but what's the harm imagining?)... have hot tea sitting amidst the beautiful green trees in the evening... such a lovely life... wish i could get there right away... but i guess the beauty of retiring lies in getting old, having seen life, and being "on the other side" like snow says. i'd still like to think that i'm young, so will have to wait for many many years to get there :)
hope the wait is worth it.... until then, keep working...
- mermaid
PS: Retirement here means retiring from the corporate rat race and going on to do something of our interests and being where we would like to be....ofcourse work will continue till the end :)

Unsolicited Advice, Uninvited Comments
One unique thing about India, or probably Asia, is that you get a lot of unsolicited advice and uninvited comments- from people u know, u don't know or haven't seen/met ever before in your life. Snow and I get a lot of them these days. So many that we thought we should dedicate a post to all those advisors.
Mermaid: Some of the advices/ comments that I got to hear in the past month:
From a concerned colleague - "Use this special pink cream - very effective. My wife used it and her skin infection disappeared in a week... No, no, no, no.... Those r not pimples on ur face. That's skin infection."
From a girl in the apartment building - "Apply tulsi everyday - will surely help. Don't mind me saying this ok??"
From a lady at a shop - "Use this Malaysian cream that my sister sells. Its EXCLUSIVE - and will surely work. Your pimples will go away in 3 months. Look at me. I am using it for the past 3 years!! Here, take my number and my sister's too. U can call us anytime, OK?"
From another colleague - "Oh, you've got clear skin". Mermaid - "Clear skin? Where can u see clear skin on my face?" C - "No, except for the pimples yaaa" OKAY!!!
The funny thing is, it's not just my skin that bothers me but also my weight. And although I always think people notice that I've put on so much weight in the past 2-3 years, it seems as if the whole world is conspiring to make me fatter! Nobody gives me any advice - useful or useless - about losing weight. I feel they're all strategizing to make me fatter so they can all look thin...
Snow: My turn to share how the whole world seems to be concerned about me, my weight, my wedding. Since the level of concern has been showing a steep rise over past few months....it's been fun listening to all of them. Following their advices is secondary but listening to them has been fun..so I welcome all the comments n advices.
On weight:
Some people who have seen me straight after 2.5 yrs react real bad. their comments are hard hitting n come out real quick in surprise.
A shocked n highly concerned guest:A relative whom I met before but spoke for the first time immediately saw me n said "what happened to you? U were so good earlier???" a statement like tht from a new person was surprising. What he meant was "Oh u've become so fat" and then when I was going to have tea, he immediately suggested me to go and exercise and told me to play badminton and he was so concerned that he said he'd come with me to play if I need. lol
From Eye Doc: I went for my eye check up and the doc who otherwise talks only business and doesn't talk of anything except for 'eye' said "U've put on lil weight ....i mean not much but lil bit"
From a shopkeeper: Even after gaining weight, I thought I'd find something of my size at this place I'd shop frequently before (when I was thin). The man politely said "These tops are for lil bit thin people". In other words, he was politely saying "fat girl, get out of this place! there's nothing for u here"..hahaha
On marriage:
Some people think that I MUST get married now, some people with their conventional mindset might think i'm even crossing my marriageable age now. So am bombarded with a lot of gyan on the benefits of getting married , why one should marry...what kind of life partner to look for etc etc.. and sometimes i think what irritates few of them is that i just keep listening and i don't reciprocate at all. Atleast am being a good listener :)
A friend at office: Everyday while travelling to n from office, she starts off trying to explain to me about the benefits of marriage, its the right time now etc, and finally ends her gyaan session something like this - " u r pathetic, Can't u make a bf, u don't want to get married, u r not interested in the guys around u...what's wrong with u". she looks out for guys for me, finds out details about them, and even rejects them on my behalf without even bringing me in the picture. she suddenly announces that she rejected somebody for me!! the reason for rejection would be even that the guy's name isn't good enough!! hahahaha. she spots guys at traffic signals or on the road and tries to show me that they're good candidates for me. at the traffic signal???
A very sweet colleague: We never discuss our personal lives with each other, but this sweet guy tells me one day "if u r ever interested in South Indian guys, please let me know. I'll find someone for u" :-D N then he says "but why don't u keep a bindi on ur forehead?" lol
Another colleague: She's in the HR team and so has easy access to people's information. She too tries looking for potential candidates at office..how much they ear, designation n whenever i bump into her..she says 'Hey i saw somebody good for u' ...oh c'mon!
I think people outside keep pestering more than my family... but sometimes when family advices come out, they are quite serious, so don't want to discuss them. This is like a never ending discussion - constant advices from elder bro, suggestions and offers from friends will continue until i decide to get married. Mermy doesn't have to go thru these advices because she's already made the announcement ;)
Apart from people pointing out our "Scope for Improvement", both of us still manage to get some compliments but we are too humble to write about them ;) heeeeeeee
Isn't it wonderful being in this part of the world where people are so genuine in their comments...good or bad ..they just tell us things and continue giving those unsolicited advices and uninvited comments about our lives...
Thanks to all for being kind enough to spare their precious time to discuss our problems and for their kind/ serious/ nasty/funny comments n advices. We dont guarantee we'll take all ur advices ..but we still welcome ur UNSOLICITED advices and comments..it's fun listening to others talking about our life...

Incorporating yoga in life - FINALLY!!!
Yes!!!!!!
We've been practising Yoga for the past 4 days - our goal obviously is to slim down and feel good about ourselves. We do it every morning. Now since it's almost 1AM and I still have some work to finish, it doesn't look like I'll be able to do it tomorrow (or today???) morning :-((( That's the reason I am writing this post - so that I can keep myself motivated to go on. This is an excerpt of the email I sent to Karma on the 2nd day of our Yoga practice :) Makes me feel great!!! -
Advantages of doing some exercise:
1. I am not feeling lazy, tired. I am more active, more awake, more aware. :-)
2. The day seems so long - feels like those good old days when we were kids when the days used to be so long that we could do many things in 1 day. The difference is we dont "do" many things, but this is a good start. we can plan on doing things
3. Due to the pain in the legs, I am constantly reminded of the hard work I'm puting in to get back in shape. That acts as a motivator to stop myself from mindless munching when I'm at home.
4. The pain also made me make up my mind not to eat out atleast for a month - even if it is a simple south indian meal (which i had at office yesterday) since they don't control the oil they add in the cooking
5. Mom gave me Slice to drink and when i was taking each sip, i was feeling guilty coz it was very sweet - so finally drank some 4-5 sips, thats all. so thats good. i m already watching what i eat/drink
6.they say everyone needs to drink 8 glasses of water per day. that was a far out goal for me, coz even when i was determined to drink more water, i could not down more than 3-4 glasses. today i've had 4 glasses of warm water already. and i still have half the day left!!
7. Finally, i could write this wonderful piece with 7 good benifits of exercising :-D
YEAH!!!!!

====================================================================
Yeah!!! finally I've been able to get into Yoga & exercising!! Hurray, that's an achievement...b'coz working out, exercising was really really not my cup of tea ever... At times i would get lil enthu when I'd get inspired by somebody and then 'try' to do something for couple of days and then back to square one..
We have had our endless plans of getting into exercising, losing weight, walking ...and nothing actually materialised. Except we realized that we passed two years just thinking, planing, thinking & planning over n again...
So ...last Friday when I bought the CD for Yoga , i remember my office friend who laughed at me and said..."u r just among many people who buy a yoga CD and that's the end...u will never see it". Though I wasn't sure of really following it, but instantly i said "I bought this yoga CD and that's a good beginning, my first step to get back to healthy body, mind & life".. It has proved to be a good beginning.. :) [it's got Shamala also to wake up at 6am and the benefits to her are listed right up there :)]
Well.. may be we should thank & appreciate the Yoga Guru Ramdev for bringing back the art of yoga to the masses all over that world that was long lost..
I hope Yoga & exercise stays as a part of my life from here on.....

Not enough time...
For the past several months it's been like a prolonged phase of 'No time for anything'. Lets see what are the things I don't have time for ...
No time to have the whole weekend to just relax and laze around..
No time to spend some enough time with my little nephew, no time to play with him, to take care of him....
Had no time to be with the little baby when he was hospitalized and help my sis in law and my aunt when they were also ill. No time for family??? [ This hurts more and I know how guilty it feels for unwillingly giving my work the priority]
No time to look pretty and smart. No time to pamper my hair sometimes. Just manage to dress up with whatever is still in the stock and whatever fits. Well I've heard few comments saying ' You were trendy and smart", not that I don't wanna get back to that state. Even the thoughts make me feel good :)!!
No time to go out for those walks we (Sham n me) had planned.
No time to workout, attend aerobics/ yoga class...there's no time to slim down basically, aah.. some justification!!
No time for any trips and adventure that I have in mind.
No time to watch any new movies, though the new release DVD stocks are lying at home.
No time to just sit idle, doing nothing and chatting with sis in law and laugh about some silly events and things ..
No time to go out with my people at home. [They just went out now a bit upset with me and my bros' comments"Your work never ends"]
No time for blogging my thoughts that come to my mind in the middle of a long office meeting, or during my long journey to my office and back home.
No time for reading the books I bought months and years ago.
No time to fight and quarrel with my brothers ..they might stop calling me Hitler now..
Not enough time to go and be with my family in Kathmandu, not enough time to take care of dad when he falls ill frequently
Not enough time to be with my lil sister and make those memorable sisters' moments in life.
Now, this makes me wonder how worth it is to be compromising on so many things and dedicating most of it to work..
I wish we had more than 24 hours a day considering the world is much more competitive now with lot of things to catch up each day. But If we get 34 hours a day... am sure the IT companies in emerging nations like ours would increase their expected and accepted working hours to 24 hrs!!!
huh!!

Living to work???
Since I am too sad and angry (more sad, disheartened, pained than angry), I cannot write an email to you. I am blogging instead... You know I am talking to you, my dear Karma...
It's 8:45PM and I doubt if you've still eaten anything. It's almost been 24 hours now and you haven't eaten a thing. You've slept for around 6 1/2 hours, and travelled for about 1 1/2 hrs. Other than that, all you have done is WORK, WORK, WORK... I can't tell u how upset i m with u - i even felt like calling up ur company and asking for the "grievance" reporting number (if there's any such thing in that heartless place) and telling them about u. I know what u'll say - yes, I too worked myself like a donkey before. but my point is, everyone knew i was working that hard, and everyone respected that. what's the point U r working so hard? the ungrateful teammates of urs don't even acknowledge the slogging u do for them. they don't care if u have to travel and walk alone on the streets at night. they don't care that u haven't been given a laptop, and that u have to use ur personal systems even to slog it out on the weekends... i know i am not being very sweet and you may feel free to delete this post, if u find the time, that is.
All that very justified anger put aside, why should someone work so hard? We work so that we can make a living - for ourselves and for the ones who depend on us. We don't work so that our bank accounts swell, but we die at our desks, without being able to even pass on the riches we collect for our dear ones. What do u say? I know u have never ever been materialistic and always been selfless. Then u should get my point even better.
I am too angry to write well. I know that u know - that my creative juices flow better when I am angry, but i am just too saddened and hurt by this. I really am. I hope this will atleast make u pause for a minute to think before u agree to give the next deliverable... if u can find time to read this, that is...
and here I break my promise to make this post "funnier" - if u can't figure what I am saying, refer to the last blog we wrote together...

I am on my own..
I am my own challenge
I am my own motivator
I am my own critic
I am my own friend
I am my own mind
I am my own thought
I am my own worry
I am my own solution
I am my own strength
I am my own weakness
Everyone will walk in and out of life, but ultimately I am on my own.
Family is always connected ...near or far, Friends will keep in touch and lend some help, and acquaintances will say hello once in a while. But when I am out there sometimes, when things get difficult, when I encounter difficult people, when the job gets bigger and heavier than my life, When a hundred thoughts hit in my mind and i feel the pressure and fatigue inside....I might still look calm from outside, one among those who look at ease. That's what I guess everyone does when they know they are own their own.
People will come by to comfort me, advise me, help me, encourage me, motivate me...but ultimately I am on my own and only I can make the greatest difference to my life. And the more I realize that , the more I will depend on myself for my growth, success, peace and happiness. Unfortunately, there are other factors controlling our life
[I'm not my own boss at work :( ], but the intensity of external factors affecting my life could be reduced when I realize.. I am on my own...I need to make a difference to my life!

Can I go elsewhere..where life is simple and lively??
Can I go else where?? This is what my heart and mind says today and it does it again and again.
While I'm sitting in office, returing after a month ..all kind of thoughts flow in my mind. I thank god for the change I had in last month. If I look back I'd led the same life every day for the past two years otherwise...life consisted of office, sitting on the chair, working on computer , traffic jam and cribbing.
Today when I sit on my chair, in my cubicle and open my computer to work after an eventful month...it just makes me sad. I constantly feel the melancholy deep inside me. I know I have to work and am too lucky to have my job, but my heart seems to have different wishes. Well..if wishes were horses, beggars would ride and I would certainly not be here sitting on the chair and hooked to the computer whole day long.
After returning and being out of the rat race..the IT cum Tech cum Corporate rat race rather, I wish to live a simple life and wish to have other ways of making a living, where I can still connect to peace, my family, the mountains and to my life very often.
I do keep reminding myself that the main reason I'm here is to work and make a career, but sometimes it's really hard to motivate myself. So I'm going to think of all the 'good' reasons to motivate myself and do better in the rat race for now.
Someday...I hope I can be a little close to my wishes of the place I want to be, the work i'd like to do, the simple life i'd like and the people I wish to be with!!
